Andreas Steppan was born in Linz in 1959 and has been working as an actor since 1981, despite being kicked out of the famous Max Reinhardt Seminar drama school. His career got off to an attention-grabbing start with an appearance on the ORF TV show “Die große Chance”, where he performed his legendary Sammy Davis Jr. parody. He subsequently worked at a variety of Viennese theatres, from the Kleine Komödie to the Kammerspiele der Josefstadt and Kabarett Simpl. In recent years, he has appeared at the Musical Sommer Amstetten in XANADU and FLASHDANCE. In 2016, he played John Cunlight in VIKTORIA UND IHR HUSAR at the Seefestspiele Mörbisch. From 2005 to 2010, Andreas Steppan ran the Komödienspiele Mödling, and his most recent production as a director was PERFECT WEDDING in 2017 at the Festspiele Berndorf. Known to German audiences as the man in the Ütltje chocolate commercials (with the catchphrase “Komm auch Du - greif zu!”), he was also a household name in Austria from 1991 to 2001 as “Selfman”, the nation’s most famous DIYer. He played the leading role in the ORF TV show “Oben ohne” for four seasons straight, and since April 2017 has been presenter of the ServusTV entertainment show “Homo Austriacus”. In 2016, he released his first CD “Steppan singt” with songs from his stage show of the same name.
