Franz Frickel completed his drama and vocal training at the University of Music and Performing Arts in his home town of Graz. Even then, he was already performing at the Graz theater and opera house.

His first roles followed at the Vienna Burgtheater, Salzburg Festival and the then Städtischen Bühnen in Germany, now Theater Münster. He has lived in Berlin for a number of years and has guest-starred in theaters across Germany and Austria. His major roles in musical theater have included Riff in WEST SIDE STORY, Ernst Ludwig in CABARET, Conrad Ferdinand Meyer in HEIDI 2, Jerry in SUGAR – SOME LIKE IT HOT, Professor Abronsius and Chagall in DANCE OF THE VAMPIRES, Sam, Harry and Bill in MAMMA MIA! and Pope Leo X in the premiere of LUTHER – REBELL GOTTES. From 2017 to 2019 he performed at Vienna's Raimund Theater in the premiere of I AM FROM AUSTRIA as Wolfgang Edler and Rainer Berger. From 2021 to 2023 he played Frank in Stefan Huber's production of DIE RACHE DER FLEDERMAUS by company Geschwister-Pfister at Zurich Opera House, the Komische Oper Berlin and the Bad Hersfelder Festival. Franz Frickel returns to Vienna for ROCK ME AMADEUS – THE FALCO MUSICAL in the role of Markus.
