The story takes place a hundred years ago, but the conflicts are still current and touching today: Young people - Wendla, Melchior and Moritz - fail with their love because of the ossified moral code of society. Her parents have never informed the children and helplessly leave them to the exuberance of their first sexual experiences. The rigid school system, the breeding of prudish and completely incapable educators leave the adolescents completely alone with their fears and doubts. Wendla loses her life through the intervention of an angel maker forced by her mother. Moritz sees no way out due to his school failure and chooses suicide. Melchior's worldview is massively shaken by all these events, but he still chooses the way to life.
