MISS SAIGON cast presentation

premiere at 03. December 2021

MISS SAIGON, Cameron Mackintosh’s powerful and poignant international hit musical will have its first ever run in Vienna from November 2021 onwards. Christian Struppeck, the VBW’s Artistic Director of Musicals, brings this famous musical by Alain Boublil & Claude-Michel Schönberg (LES MISÉRABLES) to Austria in a spectacular new production that marks the grand re-opening of the Raimund Theater. At a press conference today he presented the production and its soloists to the media.

A top-notch cast for Vienna

For the new Raimund Theater’s first major long run production the VBW have engaged a first-class cast: newcomers Vanessa Heinz and audience favourite Oedo Kuipers (MOZART!) take on the roles of Kim and Chris. Christian Rey Marbella gives his Vienna debut at the Raimund Theater as the Engineer after playing the role in the production’s tour of the UK and Ireland. John is played by musical theatre star Gino Emnes (JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR / Vienna, THE GRAND VBW MUSICAL TV GALA) and Thuy by the opera singer and musical theatre performer James Park (PETER GRIMES). Abla Alaoui (DANCE OF THE VAMPIRES / Vienna) returns to Vienna and the VBW for MISS SAIGON as Ellen, while Annemarie Lauretta (Disney’s ALADDIN) gives her VBW debut as Gigi.

Statements

VBW Artistic Director of Musicals Christian Struppeck: “Miss Saigon is one of the most successful musicals of our time. This dramatic love story has won over 70 awards internationally and been seen by over 36 million people all over the world. Following runs in London and New York, our audiences in Austria can now see for the first time this poignant and musically outstanding production in an exciting new staging by star director Laurence Connor. For this grand re-opening production at the newly renovated Raimund Theater, we have brought together an exceptional cast. Together with our first-class ensemble and our orchestra they will make MISS SAIGON a momentous and extraordinarily emotional all-round musical theatre experience.”

Cameron Mackintosh, original producer: „It’s hard to believe that the original production of MISS SAIGON in London was over 30 years ago. Even so, the tragic love story between innocent people caught up in conflicts is more relevant than ever. I’m delighted by this opportunity to come back to one of my favourite cities. MISS SAIGON is one of those very special musicals with a contemporary plot, as is “Madame Butterfly”, the opera that inspired Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil to write their extraordinary musical. The power of the story and the magnificent music make this musical immortal.”
