The concert highlight in 2020
The musical theatre stars Maya Hakvoort and Mark Seibert will sing the roles of Elisabeth and Death in a large-scale concert performance of ELISABETH at Schönbrunn Palace. Maya Hakvoort has played the Empress Elisabeth over a thousand times in many different productions of the hit musical all over the world, but this will be her first time performing the role at the original historical location. Mark Seibert has played Death at the Raimund Theater, on a major tour of Germany and in the German-language visiting production in China, as well as in last year’s concerts in the palace forecourt.
ELISABETH – The worldwide smash hit musical returns to the forecourt of Schönbrunn Palace in the summer of 2020
The famous historical backdrop of Schönbrunn Palace provides a unique and dignified ambience for the concert version of the musical about the life and times of Elisabeth, Empress of Austria, by the fabulous writing team of Michael Kunze & Sylvester Levay.
With star soloists and a wonderful ensemble accompanied by the full VBW orchestra, audiences can look forward to another exceptional concert experience in 2020. The remaining soloists will be announced in the spring of 2020.

She has played the role over a thousand times in numerous productions, both in Austria and abroad, and now returns to Vienna specifically to sing the part of the Empress in our standout concert – this time at the original historical location. Returning as Death is the charismatic Mark Seibert, an actor whose popularity with audiences extends far beyond Austria. The two will perform in the most beautiful and fitting setting imaginable for this particular musical.”
ELISABETH – an international smash hit
ELISABETH has been thrilling audiences all over the world ever since its premiere in Vienna in 1992. It has enjoyed runs in Belgium, China, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, South Korea, Sweden and Switzerland in a total of seven different languages, attracting audiences of over 11 million. The Japanese premiere in 1996 was the first ever VBW in-house production - VBW is a Wien Holding company - to open outside Austria. The smash hit musical has continued its triumphant progress for over 25 years and in 2020 there will be three major open-air concert performances of this legendary VBW export in the forecourt of Schönbrunn Palace.
