Big musical festival to kick off the VBW season at the Ronacher

The Vereinigte Bühnen Wien (VBW) are hosting the big annual musical festival WE ARE MUSICAL next Saturday, September 14, 2019, to kick off the season in and around the Ronacher. The theater will open its doors on this day and let the audience take a look behind the scenes for an entire afternoon. In addition to exclusive first excerpts from the global musical hit CATS (premiering on September 20, 2019), visitors can also expect many other exciting program items from the world of theater.
“This year, we are once again starting our musical season with a big party under the motto ‘We are Musical’. On this day, we want to thank our audience and celebrate the musical genre with them. In addition to exclusive first excerpts from CATS, our musical stars will be on the big open-air stage, and various workshops for children and young people will be held as part of our cultural education program. We are opening our doors to give our audience very special behind-the-scenes insights into the Ronacher.”

Exclusive CATS excerpts
A week before the long-awaited premiere, the first scenes from CATS will be shown in the auditorium. Vereinigte Bühnen Wien will present the world-famous musical in a new version of the original production in German at the Ronacher from September 20, 2019.
“Best of Musical” on the open-air stage with VBW musical stars
While parts of the current production will be shown in the theater, the greatest musical hits of the VBW will be presented on the open-air stage in front of the Ronacher. Unfortunately, Thomas Borchert had to cancel his appearance due to illness. However, we are very happy that Marc Clear will be on our open-air stage instead and will give a VBW best-of-musical concert together with Annemieke van Dam, Carin Filipcic, and Oliver Arno! Robert Steiner and the popular rat Rolf Rüdiger will once again be hosting the event.
Dance and orchestra workshops for children and young people
The VBW's musical division offers a wide range of cultural education programs throughout the year, including workshops for schools, musical workshops, artist talks, and social and integrative projects, with the aim of inspiring children and young people to take an interest in musical theater and promoting their creativity. As part of the Musicalfest, children and young people can attend dance workshops and the VBW Musical Kids Club, an event organized by “VBW Junges Musical”. There they have the opportunity to rehearse well-known musical choreographies. Workshops with the orchestra of the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien take place on the theater's rehearsal stage, promising an excursion into the world of music. Instruments are explained and can be explored in more detail.
Mask workshop, props, costumes, face painting for children and souvenir flea market
In addition to the musical program of the festival, many different workshops will also take place backstage at the theater:
In the mask workshop, VBW make-up artists can be seen at work. In the foyer, props and costumes from VBW musicals can be admired. Between 12:30 and 5:00 pm, merchandise from past musical productions can be purchased at a low price at the large souvenir flea market in front of the Ronacher.
