On May 3, 2020, the musical stars of the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien presented the greatest VBW musical ballads live from the ORF RadioKulturhaus as part of the ORF concert series “Wir spielen für Österreich” - an initiative of ORF III together with Ö1, the ORF RadioKulturhaus and the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna in cooperation with the Vienna State Opera, the Volksoper Wien and the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien.
During this currently very difficult time, when all theaters have to remain closed, the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien would like to make a cultural contribution and bring the most emotional musical moments home to the audience.
On this special concert evening, audience favorites Thomas Borchert, Carin Filipčić, Maya Hakvoort, Dominik Hees, Milica Jovanović, Oedo Kuipers, Lukas Perman, Drew Sarich and Mark Seibert presented the most beautiful songs from the VBW's own productions ELISABETH, TANZ DER VAMPIRE, SCHIKANEDER, DER BESUCH DER ALTEN DAME, I AM FROM AUSTRIA, DON CAMILLO & PEPPONE, MOZART! REBECCA as well as from the current production CATS live from the Großer Sendesaal in the ORF RadioKulturhaus and via video feed.
The program is a journey through the most popular musicals of the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien, which have delighted audiences both in Vienna and internationally. More than 27.5 million people worldwide have seen a VBW musical.
All dates for the organization of the concert took place in compliance with the strictest safety regulations and medical health checks.
Musical focus evening with VBW musical stars and I AM FROM AUSTRIA
Following the big concert, ORF III showed the VBW's successful musical I AM FROM AUSTRIA in the original production from the Raimund Theater by Andreas Gergen with audience favorites such as Iréna Flury, Lukas Perman, Elisabeth Engstler, Andreas Steppan, Dolores Schmidinger and Martin Bermoser in the leading roles. The musical by Titus Hoffmann and Christian Struppeck with the greatest hits by Rainhard Fendrich has captured the hearts of audiences since its world premiere in September 2017. After two almost sold-out seasons in Vienna, the production celebrated its acclaimed premiere in Japan in October 2019 and, after two equally sold-out series of performances in Takarazuka / Osaka and Tokyo, has attracted three quarters of a million visitors worldwide.
