Since his debut in 1988 at the National Theatre London, he has designed sets for operas, musicals, drama and dance productions. In opera, these include LE NOZZE DI FIGARO (Vienna); DIE GEZEICHNETEN, DIE SCHWEIGSAME FRAU (Zurich); CAPRICCIO (Berlin, Turin); DER ROSENKAVALIER, MARY STUART (English National Opera); ANNA BOLENA (Bayerische Staatsoper); MITRIDATE, RE DI PONTO (Salzburg Festival); THE RAKE'S PROGRESS, CYRANO DE BERGERAC (Metropolitan Opera); PIQUE DAME (Royal Opera House, London); GUILLAUME TELL (Opéra Bastille); LA BOHÈME (Royal Albert Hall, London), LA RONDINE (La Fenice, Venice); CYRANO DE BERGERAC (La Scala, Milan); CARMEN, LES CONTES D'HOFFMANN (Beijing); HEART OF A SOLDIER (San Francisco Opera); LA TRAVIATA (Bolshoi Theatre) as well as numerous productions at the Washington National Opera. In spoken theater, he has designed sets for the Royal Shakespeare Company as well as at the National Theatre, London's West End and Broadway. He has also been responsible for internationally renowned musical productions, including BOY FROM OZ (Sydney), JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR (UK/USA tour, Broadway), WHISTLE DOWN THE WIND (West End), SHOWBOAT (Royal Albert Hall), REBECCA (Vienna, St. Gallen and Stuttgart), MARIE ANTOINETTE (Bremen), SPIRAL (China), SHOWBOAT (Chicago, Houston, Washington and Dallas), DER BESUCH DER ALTEN DAME (Ronacher Vienna), BUTTERFLY PRINCESS (China), REBECCA, ARTUS - EXCALIBUR, DON CAMILLO & PEPPONE, MATTERHORN (St. Gallen), WEST SIDE STORY (Houston, Glimmerglass, Chicago, Kansas, Atlanta) and SOUND OF MUSIC (Glimmerglass). Peter J. Davison received Tony, Drama Desk and Olivier Award nominations for MEDEA. In 1994, he was awarded the Martini/TMA for MEDEA and ST. JOAN with the Martini/TMA Regional Theatre Award for Best Set Designer, and in 2015 he received the Golden Schikaneder for THE VISIT OF THE OLD LADY. He received one Olivier nomination each for LE CID and ST. JOAN.
