Christian Struppeck Co-Autor
Christian Struppeck has been Artistic Director of Musicals at the VBW since 2012. He has worked in musicals for over 30 years, initially as an actor and singer, then as a creative script developer, director, dramatist, producer and artistic advisor. In his function at the VBW as well as artistic director of Stage Entertainment Deutschland and manager of the creative department, he oversaw 33 major productions, including CATS, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, DANCE OF THE VAMPIRES, MAMMA MIA!, WICKED, Disney’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, ELISABETH and Disney’s AIDA. He also headed the Creative Agency Berlin together with Andreas Gergen, with whom he has co-directed over 40 musicals and operettas. He co-authored and directed the Udo Jürgens hit musical ICH WAR NOCH NIEMALS IN NEW YORK, which has successfully performed in Hamburg, Berlin, Vienna, Munich, Zurich, Stuttgart, Linz, Salzburg, Tokyo und Oberhausen. As well as writing numerous operetta adaptations, Christian Struppeck has authored the musical comedy WOCHENEND UND SONNENSCHEIN (Stuttgart, Lucerne etc.), new versions of DIE DREI VON DER TANKSTELLE (Berlin, Vienna etc.), LA BELLE HÉLÈNE and FRAU LUNA, and co-authored the major Swiss hit musical DÄLLEBACH KARI (Thun, Zurich, Bern). He was also author and creative developer of the musical THE VISIT (Thun, Vienna, Tokyo).
Together with three times Oscar© prize winner Stephen Schwartz and director legend Trevor Nunn (CATS, LES MISÉRABLES), he created the musical SCHIKANEDER about Emanuel Schikaneder and the creation of the "Zauberflöte" ("The Magic Flute"), which celebrated its world premiere in 2016 at the Raimund Theater. Currently he is working with Oscar© and Tony Award© prize winner Christopher Hampton, Don Black and award-winning Hollywood film composer George Fenton (GANDHI) on a musical version of the cult movie DER DRITTE MANN. Together with Broadway composer Frank Wildhorn he works on a new musical CASANOVA.
