Bodyguard - The Musical

Vereinigte Bühnen Wien is opening the 2018/19 season in the Ronacher with the international hit musical BODYGUARD – THE MUSICAL, based on one of the biggest cinema blockbusters of all time.

They will be presenting an elaborate German-language staging of the original production, which received the "Best New Musical" award and was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award. Spectacular choreography and songs by the Grammy-winning film soundtrack guarantee the audience a first-class live experience.

Artistic directors of the opera and musical theatre divisions of the VBW appointed

As of the 2022/2023 season, the Norwegian opera director Stefan Herheim will take over as artistic director of the Theater an der Wien. The present artistic director, Roland Geyer, will stay in place at the stagione opera house until Herheim takes over. The artistic director of musicals for the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien (VBW), Christian Struppeck, has had his contract extended for a further five years as of the 2020/21 season. This appointment reaffirms the VBW’s commitment to an innovative programming concept for its opera house and to continuity within the nationally and internationally successful musicals division.

The VBW’s autumn of musicals takes off

A big thank-you to our audiences! I AM FROM AUSTRIA held its grand premiere in Vienna and our two autumn productions triggered the highest number of pre-sales since records began: together, the two musicals have kicked off the new season with sales of over 160,000 tickets.

I AM FROM AUSTRIA, the musical by Titus Hoffmann (book & idea) and Christian Struppeck (book & creative development), featuring Rainhard Fendrich’s greatest hits, had its world premiere on 16 September 2017 at the Raimund Theater in Vienna.

Vampires rehearse for the opening night!

Just four weeks to go! On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, DANCE OF THE VAMPIRES can finally be seen in Vienna again! Yesterday VBWs Artistic Director Christian Struppeck and Director Cornelius Baltus invited in the rehearsal studio to give a first insight in the rehearsals. The opening night is on the 30th September 2017 at the Ronacher.

DANCE OF THE VAMPIRES – the rehearsals have started

In a few weeks the cult musical DANCE OF THE VAMPIRE comes home. On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, DANCE OF THE VAMPIRES returns to Vienna on the 30th September 2017, the city where it was first performed.

MOZART! at the film festival

The movie of the VBW in-house production MOZART! will be presented at this year’s film festival at the Viennese Rathausplatz on 11 July and 16 August 2017.

The movie will start around 8:30 PM on the big screen in front of the city hall (Rathausplatz). The full program as well as the specific screening times can be found here.

Last show DON CAMILLO & PEPPONE

On 25 June 2017 DON CAMILLO & PEPPONE celebrated its last show. The audience hailed the cast with standing ovations. After, artistic director Christian Struppeck raised a glass to the success of the performance with the ensemble, all members who contributed on and back stage and the guests of the final performance.

On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, DANCE OF THE VAMPIRES can finally be seen in Vienna again! At a press conference, the VBW’s Artistic Director of Musicals, Christian Struppeck, presented the new production, which has no fewer than three Counts von Krolock. Drew Sarich, Mark Seibert and Thomas Borchert will play the role at the Ronacher from 30 September 2017.

Rainhard Fendrich’s greatest hits are to be transformed into a musical. Artistic director Christian Struppeck presented the production, leading team and the almost Austrian cast today. On September 16, 2017 I AM FROM AUSTRIA will celebrate its world premiere at the Raimund Theater in Vienna.

Already for the ninth time, the matinee of MUSICAL MEETS OPERA, a cooperation between the VBW and the "Freunde der Wiener Staatsoper", took place at the Ronacher May 8, 2017.

LIVE CD of DON CAMILLO & PEPPONE is out now

DON CAMILLO & PEPPONE celebrated its Austrian premiere January 27, 2017 at the Ronacher! It lovingly recreates the tales centred on the pugnacious Catholic priest Don Camillo and his no less bellicose antagonist Peppone as a joyous, light-hearted musical.

Last weekend, a very special guest visited the show of SCHIKANEDER: 3 times Oscar© prize winner and SCHIKANEDER composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz came to Vienna to see the show and the cast.
