VBW Orchestra at the Vienna Jazz Festival

The Vereinigten Bühnen Wien Orchestra will be performing on the occasion of Frank Sinatra’s Centenary celebrations at the Vienna Jazz Festival in the Vienna State Opera!

The VEREINIGTEN BÜHNEN WIEN Orchestra will be performing on the 6th July 2015 at the Vienna Jazz Festival. In honour of Frank Sinatra, stars such as Thomas, Quasthoff, Angelika Kirchschlager, Allan Harris and Louie Austen accompanied by the VBW Orchestra, will be remembering the Crooner-legend on the occasion of his 100th Birthday Anniversary. The musicians will be following the footsteps of members of the legendary Count Basie Big Band, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Nelson Riddle and Gordon Jenkins. On this evening, the veteran called by his fans “the voice” will be worshipped under the musical direction of Herbert Pichler.

The VEREINIGTEN BÜHNEN WIEN Orchestra was founded in 1987 through the merger between Theater an der Wien and Raimund Theater. Currently the orchestra consists of 84 instrumentalists from various genres, who have developed throughout the last few decades into a unified and highly acclaimed ensemble. The Orchestra performs each evening highly rated musical performances in the VBW theatres and as a result of their high standard, are very active in the Jazz and Big Band scene. Additionally, the orchestra has managed to impress audiences through their film-music interpretations, their involvement in operettas and contemporary chamber ensembles as well as numerous concert series at home and abroad.

VBW-Musical Director Christian Struppeck:
Our fantastic VBW-Orchestra will participate this year in the “Sinatra Tribute” together with prominent soloists at the Vienna Jazz Festival, where they will be performing for the first time in the Vienna State Opera. Many of the famous Sinatra tunes come from famous musicals by Richard Rodgers & Oscar Hammerstein, Cole Porter, Jerry Herman, Leonard Bernstein and many others. In this regard, it is wonderful that our orchestra has been chosen for this event as their extremely large repertoire covers all styles – from Musical numbers and Big Band through to Pop and Rock.”
