On May 7, the hit VBW musical RUDOLF – THE LAST KISS, written by Frank Wildhorn (music) and Jack Murphy (lyrics), celebrated its acclaimed premiere at the Festspielhaus Neuschwanstein in Füssen. The show can now be experienced for the first time in Germany in an impressive new production. The production, directed by Alex Balga, is scheduled to run through October 2026.

Star-Studded Cast

The musical stars Oedo Kuipers (Crown Prince Rudolf) and Katia Bischoff (Mary Vetsera) in the lead roles. In addition, the audience can look forward to seeing audience favorites Barbara Obermeier (Countess Marie Larisch), Felix Martin (Emperor Franz Joseph), Kristine Emde (Crown Princess Stephanie), and Lucius Wolter (Eduard Taaffe).

A play about love, freedom, and fate

RUDOLF – THE LAST KISS tells the tragic love story of Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria and Mary Vetsera—a musical drama about personal freedom, political oppression, and the courage to stand up for one’s convictions. With moving music and striking visuals, this new production spans the arc from the imperial heyday to the inner collapse of a young idealist whose life and death became legend.

From Japan to Hungary

RUDOLF – THE LAST KISS already boasts an impressive performance history. Since its German-language premiere in Vienna in 2009 at the Raimund Theater as part of the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien, it has been followed by further international productions, including in Japan, Hungary, and South Korea. Now the musical can be seen in Germany for the first time.
