Romance, dark secrets and eerie suspense

The story begins in 1926 in a hotel in Monte Carlo, where ‘I’, acting as a chaperone to the wealthy American Mrs Van Hopper, meets Maxim de Winter, who has recently lost his wife. A romantic relationship quickly develops between ‘I’ and Maxim, leading to their marriage. After a romantic honeymoon in Venice, the couple return to Maxim’s estate, Manderley, in Cornwall, where ‘I’ is confronted by the constant presence of Maxim’s late first wife, Rebecca, and the manipulative housekeeper, Mrs Danvers. The love story at Manderley gradually unfolds into a gripping thriller full of intrigue and dark surprises.
