MOZART! celebrates a brilliant premiere in Shanghai
Following the overwhelming success of the VBW musicals in China last year, Michael Kunze and Sylvester Levay's hit show celebrated its grand premiere in Shanghai on 27 November 2025.
The production is being presented for the first time in an elaborate semi-staged production, accompanied by a large orchestra. The tour comprises a total of 34 performances in renowned partner theatres of the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien. Shanghai will be followed by further stops in Guangzhou, Beijing and Suzhou.
The production is directed by Gil Mehmert, who also directed the Schönbrunn version of ELISABETH. Christoph Bönecker and Ratan Jhaveri are responsible for the musical direction, while the choreography is by Simon Eichenberger. The costume design is by Yan Tax, the lighting design by Michael Grundner, while Michael Balgavy is responsible for the video design and Hendrik Maassen for the sound design.
The China tour is being organised in cooperation with Nordic View Entertainment, a young company that specialises in bringing European live entertainment to new markets.
