300,000 visitors celebrate ELISABETH in Germany and Switzerland

Highly emotional and with a moving final performance, the triumphant tour of the Schönbrunn version of ELISABETH – THE MUSICAL came to an end last week at the Füssener Festspielhaus Neuschwanstein after 263 performances.
Over the past few months, 300,000 enthusiastic audience members in Germany and Switzerland have enjoyed the impressively staged theatre version of the international hit by Michael Kunze and Sylvester Levay, produced by Vereinigte Bühnen Wien.
Since its premiere in 1992, the VBW musical hit ELISABETH, penned by Michael Kunze and Sylvester Levay, has been considered one of the most popular and globally successful German-language musicals of all time. With the semi-staged theatre version, which originated from the acclaimed Viennese ‘Schönbrunn version’, the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien has set completely new standards and, in a sophisticated way, given the Sisi myth a new, multifaceted perspective – with tremendous success. On the most prestigious stages throughout the German-speaking world – whether at the Theater des Westens in Berlin, the Sächsische Staatsoper Dresden or the Alte Oper Frankfurt – fans everywhere celebrated exuberantly and frenetically the touching story of the Austrian Empress Elisabeth and her encounter with ‘death’.
