For the seventh time, the cultural education programme of the VBW JUNGES MUSICAL division held an interactive musical workshop at the Gassergasse Secondary School (MS Gassergasse).

This time, three 3rd year classes from the school were introduced to Cameron Mackintosh's spectacular new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. Over a total of three days, the focus was on the musical genre, the many different professions in the theatre and the global musical hit about the mystical ‘Phantom’.

During the workshop, the young people explored the different roles in a musical and revealed the secrets of an opera house that is also the setting for the play. There was singing, acting and crafting. Inspired by the fascinating crystal chandelier from the theatre production, the participants created a colourful and unique stage prop together with the stage technicians, for which each student designed a decorative piece. The handicrafts enabled the young people to implement an idea together, thereby promoting creativity, expressiveness and team spirit.

As a grand finale to the workshop, Vienna City Insurance (Wiener Städtische Versicherung) invited the students to see THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA at the Raimund Theater. On this evening, the students were able to experience the musical and the crystal chandelier, which plays a central role in the play, live. A very special day for everyone!
