VBW cultural education: focus in spring 2025
Vereinigte Bühnen Wien is committed to making music theatre accessible to everyone. With two special initiatives - the ‘relaxed performance’ and the ‘Education Day’ - they are once again creating innovative, inclusive and participatory cultural education programmes in spring 2025.
‘Education Day’ on 30 April: a look behind the scenes of the musical
On 30 April 2025, VBW will be holding an ‘Education Day’ for pupils aged 14 and over for the first time, offering young people exclusive insights into the trades behind the scenes at the Ronacher. On this special day, all the diverse professions at the theatre will be presented up close in action. Whether performers, stage technology, costume, make-up or props, sound, lighting and stage management - in a unique setting, theatre experts from the VBW musical division show their everyday working life live on the musical stage and then answer the pupils' questions first-hand. The crowning glory of the ‘Education Day’ is the joint visit of the young people to a performance of ROCK ME AMADEUS – THE FALCO MUSICAL. Here they finally experience how all these professions seamlessly intertwine to bring an impressive show to the stage every evening. ‘relaxed performance’ on 18 May: an inclusive musical experience for everyone
On 18 May, a ‘relaxed performance’ will take place for the second time in a VBW musical theatre - this time at ROCK ME AMADEUS – THE FALCO MUSICAL. Following the successful realisation of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA last July at the Raimund Theater, this unique performance format, with which the VBW would like to take another important step towards inclusion, can be experienced this time at the Ronacher. As in 2024, this will once again take place in cooperation with Österreichische Autistenhilfe. In the ‘relaxed performance’, sensory stimuli such as loud noises and strong lighting effects are reduced or adapted. In addition, the auditorium remains lightly lit throughout the performance and it is possible to leave and return at any time. Simple orientation aids and a guide in plain language support the preparation for the musical experience. The VBW is thus sending out a strong signal in favour of accessibility and participation in cultural life.
