Musicals with that special ‘Viennese flair’
The plays are developed according to the highest international standards: years of ‘laboratory work’ on material, books and music are followed by readings and elaborate workshop productions, as is also common on Broadway and in London's West End. However, perhaps with a little more courage to try something new, but in any case to create a unique European direction for the genre. Combining international and local creative potential is essential here: this special blend has been bearing fruit for over 20 years and enables the realisation of large-scale, emotional musicals with a special ‘Viennese flair’.

MOZART! celebrates a brilliant premiere in Shanghai
Following the overwhelming success of the VBW musicals in China last year, Michael Kunze and Sylvester Levay's hit show celebrated its grand premiere in Shanghai on 27 November 2025.

300,000 visitors celebrate ELISABETH in Germany and Switzerland
Highly emotional and with a moving final performance, the triumphant tour of the Schönbrunn version of ELISABETH – THE MUSICAL came to an end last week at the Füssener Festspielhaus Neuschwanstein after 263 performances.

RUDOLF – THE LAST KISS 2026 premieres in Germany
The Vereinigte Bühnen Wien is delighted that its own production RUDOLF – DER LETZTE KUSS (Rudolf – The Last Kiss) by renowned Broadway songwriting duo Frank Wildhorn and Jack Murphy will celebrate its long-awaited premiere in Germany next spring.
DANCE OF THE VAMPIRES goes Japan
After five years, the cult musical by VBW is finally back in Japan! So far, over half a million people have seen the adventures of vampire hunter “Professor Abronsius” and his assistant ‘Alfred’ in the dark empire of the “Count von Krolock” in almost 350 shows.
ELISABETH Tour in the Netherlands
ELISABETH goes Holland! The international VBW hit production, penned by Michael Kunze & Sylvester Levay, is going on a major tour of the Netherlands from March to October 2025.

Great success for VBW musicals in China! As part of two German-language tours, the two world-famous musicals ELISABETH and REBECCA could be experienced in China from August to December 2024 in semi-staged performances with a large orchestra.

Only a few more weeks until the long-awaited Chinese premiere of REBECCA! Rehearsals have already begun, and the cast is now working intensively on the piece at the Ronacher.
Successful VBW musicals take China by storm
Vereinigte Bühnen Wien is delighted to announce two German-language tours of its world-famous musical hits in China: ELISABETH and REBECCA, both written by Michael Kunze & Sylvester Levay, will be performed semi-staged and with a large orchestra in a total of 62 performances in renowned Chinese partner theatres of VBW in Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou from August to December 2024.

On Monday, REBECCA, the successful musical by Vereinigte Bühnen Wien, celebrated its acclaimed UK premiere at the Charing Cross Theatre in London.
MOZART! in Antwerp
On 9 November 2017 the Belgian cast of MOZART! gave a first insight into the production at the Paleis op de Meir in Antwerp. Ruben van Keer, who plays the role “Mozart”, presented his song “Ik ben muziek”. Ana Milva Gomes, who already played “Baronin von Waldstätten” in Vienna and will now play the role in Antwerp, sang the song “In het hart” together with the ensemble of the show. Grammy-Award winner and composer Sylvester Levay (music & arrangements MOZART!) accompanied the singers on the piano. Later on, the cast presented some of the gorgeous costumes of the show. The premiere is on 10 December 2017 at the Stadtschouwburg Antwerp. It is the first time that the production is shown in Belgium.
Biting VAMPIRES in Moscow
The musical TANZ DER VAMPIRE celebrated its premiere on October 29th in the 1,808 seats MDM theater in Moscow.
ELISABETH in Japan and Korea
On Saturday 13th June, the curtains have risen for the internationally successful VBW-Musical ELISABETH in the Imperial Theatre in Tokyo as well as the Blue Square Theater in Seoul.

I AM FROM AUSTRIA, the latest in-house production from the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien (VBW), premiered in Japan to huge applause at the Takarazuka Grand Theatre in Takarazuka/Osaka.
